A competition and exhibition for 4-11 year olds to promote creativity, collaboration and appreciation of spaces alongside sustainability.
The competition is open to anyone of primary school age in Cornwall and Devon, free of charge, to inspire the future generations of creative thinkers and promote awareness of the built environment. The competition is now open and runs until judging day on 23rd May when models will be presented in our offices at Northgate Studios and on display for a public exhibition between 24th May and 31st May (closed Sunday 25th May).
The annual Children’s Architectural Model Competition is now in it’s 6th year! We are delighted to be working once more with Launceston Town Council, The Orchard Centre and Make Stuff Happen CIC as well as new partners Causley Trust to bring the public exhibition to the Launceston Poetry Festival!
Who can take part?
The competition is open to all ages between 4 and 11 in Cornwall & Devon. Schools are invited to take part, perhaps as a term project, or models can be submitted by groups, organisations or individuals.
Where will models be made?
That’s entirely up to you! Perhaps at home, school or organise with a friend. All model-making is expected to be carried out off the premises by participants’ own means in advance of 23rd May. Unfortunately we are unable to offer build workshops this year.
How to sign up:
We would appreciate a notification before Friday 16th May from interested applicants, either individually or as a group or school, to ensure we have an appropriate sized venue to display and judge the models. Please send an email to express interest, ask any questions or confirm taking part at the contact details below.
How will models be presented and judged?
Models will be dropped off at the venue in the morning and judging will take place privately in the afternoon where rosettes with 1st and 2nd place, and ‘Special Mention’ will be placed next to the winners. The models will be left in place for an exhibition running between 24th May and 31st May (closed Sunday 25th May) where applicants will be able to view the models and find out the winners. The venue will be open to the public. Models will be available to be picked up following the exhibition. Please note models will be left unattended in a public space for the exhibition. Download the Brief for full details.
Please note, all models will need to be left in place from drop off on Friday 23rd May until collection on Monday 2nd June – Tuesday 3rd June 9:00 – 17:30.
